[Taken in Hand] Sony Xperia 5, the same but smaller

Sony took advantage to return to the market for high-performance but compact smartphones. Here is the Xperia 5, a kind of Xperia 1 but smaller.

If there have not been many announcements in the world of smartphones, this has allowed Sony in peace its new Xperia 5 which can be summed up in a way an Xperia 1 (whose test is HERE) but with a smaller screen.

Remember, since the beginning of the year, we regretted somewhat the Compact range of Sony which allowed to have a compact smartphone but high-flying performance, a bit like the Pixel 3 or the Pixel 3a. It was wrongly thought that Sony would no longer offer such a product and now the new Xperia 5 is announced.

There is a 21:9 CinemaWide screen but with a smaller size, the definition is no longer 4K but Full HD. For the rest, there is an OLED slab, DCI-P3 and BT.2020 support, an excellent SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and 128GB capacity with a Micro-SD port.  Ditto for the photo, we find the same photo block as on the X1 with its triple camera ranging from ultra wide-angle to telephoto x2 but especially with the excellent AF system from Sony Alpha.

As for the grip, it is even better in real life. We expected a little to be honest but we had some doubts because comparing the sizes of the Xperia 1 with the Xperia 5, the difference is not obvious either but the reality is quite different, especially with a size all in length that really allows one-handed use and always an excellent grip of the smartphone. It will be available in 4 colours from October at a price of 799 euros. If you pre-order it tomorrow, you will be offered a pair of WF-1000XM3 headphones, the best currently on the market and with a price of 249 euros anyway.
